The big news in the industry this week was GM’s agreement to sell Opel and Vauxhall to PSA Peugeot Citroen. While we don’t have many Peugeot dealerships here in the U.S., this could have ramifications for GM’s Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC brands. If you have thoughts on what those could be, get in touch with me. I’d love to talk.
Meanwhile, this week I talk with Dave Thomas, who heads up the motorcycle dealership buy sell business at MD Johnson, Inc. While you are unlikely to have a customer who has the urge to engrave, say, Lexus on his teeth in gold inlay, there are similarities in the knowledge set needed to be a successful Lexus or Harley-Davidson dealer. Read about them in this issue.
Also this week Stephen Dietrich of Greenberg Traurig returns to our pages with some thoughts on the dearth of good talent in the dealership business. Dietrich is hearing a lot of talk about the lack of talent and how that is a real hurdle to getting some deals done. But, he says, there appears to be a lot of talented folks out there. The issue may be the lack of a good mechanism to match the supply and with the demand.
And of course we have Transaction News. This week, Katy Melloy sent us news of a deal the Melloy Auto Group just closed. We posted it. I hope more of you will start sharing your buy sell news with us, as well.
