Volkswagen pleads guilty in emissions trial, must pay $4.3 billion in penalities

In yet another costly chapter in the on-going fall out from Volkswagen AG’s software to suppress emissions data in its diesel-powered vehicles, the German automaker pleaded guilty in U.S. court to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit fraud and agreed to pay $4.3 billion in civilian and criminal penalties, reports the Los Angeles Times.
