This week I profile the Diehl Auto Group, a family-owned dealership group based in Pennsylvania. It’s heavy on Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram stores, so those brands must be popular in Pennsylvania. Diehl is an FCA Certified Collision Repair Facility, and it has several body shops.
That gets me to thinking how much value a collision repair center aka body shop adds to a dealership’s value. Perhaps it comes down to whether the body shop is profitable. Fixed ops in general is increasingly important to a dealership’s bottom line so a well-run body shop could be a real asset.
Would love to hear from some of my readers re: thoughts on the value of having collision repair centers. They went out of fashion for dealerships awhile back but are increasingly popular now.
Corina Diehl’s story is a compelling one. She took over running a CDJR and Toyota dealership when her husband died suddenly. Diehl is an experienced and savvy dealer principal nowadays.
Also, this week, our friend Don Ray returns with a column examining whether determining a dealership multiple is art or science. His conclusion is that is it a bit of both. At least I think that is what Don concluded….
