Dealership buy sell is such a hot topic in the automotive world these days that even conferences that seem to have nothing to do with it have speakers and panels addressing the topic. That’s what I noticed as I looked over the speaker lists at some of the pre-NADA events I’ll be attending in San Francisco next week.
Broad knowledge of trends in buy sell is great, but the devil is in the details. We at Automotive Buy Sell Report aim to bring you expert advice on the many details involved in preparing to sell a dealership, preparing to buy a dealership, actually doing the deal, and a myriad of other topics.
This week attorney Mark Counts offers some advice on dealing with your Dealer Management System contract during the buy sell process. To wit, don’t deal with it during the process, deal with it in your DMS contract! Also, don’t forget that your data has value.
In “The Art of War,” Sun Tzu wrote, “If you know your enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.” In this issue Stephen Bethel of Frazier Capital Valuation helps the potential buyer of a dealership know the seller.
I’m not saying that the seller is the enemy, or even that the relationship between buyer and seller need be adversarial. Nonetheless, knowing what kind of seller you are dealing with can strengthen a buyer’s hand, so this is valuable info.
As always, we also bring you the latest Transaction News.
We will be at NADA next week in booth 6333W. Come by and see us! Next week is exciting for another reason, as well – the launch of Automotive Buy Sell Report’s re-designed website! Check it out. We welcome feedback on how it looks and how it can be improved.
Enjoy!
