New vehicle sales are up, transaction prices are up, dealership count is stable and throughput at dealerships is up. The market is looking good. That helped make 2015 a record year for buy/sell transactions. That is some of the news I’ve been reading lately. So, not a bad time to be building a dealership group here in the U.S.
Mark McLarty is doing just that. His recently-founded McLarty Automotive Group is up to 14 franchises and growing. McLarty is also looking to grow another dealership group in a less-healthy market, however. He is part owner of Caltabiano McLarty Automotive Group in Brazil, a market where sales are way down and not expected to improve much this year. In this issue, I talk with Mark about how Brazil’s buy/sell market differs from the U.S. and why he sees opportunity there.
As I’m sure you are all aware, tax filing deadline is fast approaching. So I reached out to one of our contributors, Barry Bagus of Emptech, to see if he had any words of wisdom related to taxes. He did! In this issue, he reminds those of you who have gone through an acquisition of areas where you might be missing tax savings, or a tax refund, related to the acquisition.
