July trends according to Jessica Caldwell, Edmunds.com director of industry analysis:
- The average new car loan APR was 4.38% in July. That’s the lowest average for a single month since September 2014.
- Loan term for new cars continues to grow: July saw an average of 68.1 months.
- 13 percent of new cars buyers who financed in July locked in a 0% APR. That’s three percentage points higher than last month’s figure of 10 percent.
- Vehicles are selling fast! The average days to turn in July was 62 days, the lowest average for a single month since November 2011.
- The fastest selling segments in July were Compact Truck and Compact Crossover. In fact, most SUV segments are selling faster than cars. The slowest selling segments in July were Subcompact Car (94 days) and Large Car (82 days).
