According to the Detroit Free Press, the U.S. Department of Transportation would like to streamline the process for getting exemptions to the federal safety standards in order to help self-driving development. The department’s 80-page report, entitled “Preparing for the Future of Transportation: Automated Vehicles 3.0“, encourages companies to be transparent in their safety reporting while prioritizing its importance. The new regulations will no longer assume that a human is present in commercially operated vehicles.
