Berkshire Hathaway Automotive’s plan to open a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Austin, Tex. is facing opposition from a local Mercedes dealer on two fronts: The dealer says the location for the new Berkshire Hathaway dealership is within 15 miles of his dealership, which violates state franchise laws; and that Berkshire Hathaway is not allowed to own any dealerships in Texas because Berkshire Hathaway owns an RV manufacturer and is therefore not allowed in Texas to own automotive dealerships because vehicle manufacturers can under state law own dealerships, reports mystatesman.com.
